The Old Quay House is a traditional waterside Cornish inn, situated with beautiful views of the Hayle tidal estuary.
Owners Trevor & Margaret Richards are long-established in the local hospitality industry in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly and TEE Ltd have been their preferred electrical contractor for many years.
When Trevor and Margaret took over The Old Quay House in 2012, they immediately set to work renovating the historic building. Trevor explains how the work started:
“Our first brief to TEE, as soon as we’d exchanged contracts, was to assess all the electricals and bring the building up to standard on all the latest safety regulations.
“TEE put together an Electrical Installation Condition Report, which is an audit of anything that is hazardous and needs fixing as a priority, as well as things that are tired and need attention.
“A lot of technical work was carried out; everything was tested as part of a full electrical inspection lasting 3 days, we rewired and revamped areas, and TEE also replaced the fire alarm system to ensure the building was up to the latest safety standards – all before we reopened.”
Extensive work has continued since, including renovations to all the internal areas and the addition of a new multi-purpose function suite upstairs.
LED lighting was installed in the two main bar areas and also in the new conference and banqueting suite, bringing with it substantial energy savings. External lights were also added so the main, gable ends of the building are lit when dark.
Trevor explains: “Not only does the new lighting add greatly to the ambience of this beautiful old building, we’ve achieved brilliant cost efficiencies that will allow us to invest in further improvements.”
“We’re very health & safety conscious, so it’s testament to TEE Ltd that we trust them with our business and not only that, they’ve helped us save money too.”
